LAVENDER LANGUAGES INSTITUTE: “Gλωσσique Encounters”, a participatory and joyful performative presentation by WordMord , 8 December, 2022, 7:00pm

Which words do you love?
Which words bother you? why?
In which language do you shout?
In which language do you hear your silence?

In “Gλωσσique Encounters”, the collective WordMord dives into found public and private texts and speeches - such as comments on social media, newspaper articles, laws, contracts, school books, dictionaries, love letters, etc - that reflect abusive and dominant language. They analyze, destabilize, distort, paraphrase, re/verse, shake up, transform, transliterate, slow down the hegemonic, violent as well as binary aspects of the language that dominates and constructs our bodies and our desires.

At Pickle Bar WordMord will introduce their practice, listing the embodied and technological mediated tools and methodologies they have developed and will invite the audience to re/write on their skin and therefore paraphrase the words that hurt or the words that one loves.

WordMord is an interdisciplinary artistic research process between Athens, Berlin and Rotterdam aiming to unravel the complex ways in which language and technology intertwine with trauma and violence but also with the body, pleasure and sexuality. From 2020 onwards WordMord´s initial research team consists of: Aggeliki Diakrousi, Christina Karagianni, Stylianos Benetos aka Oyto Arognos, Franck-Lee Alli-Tis aka Vassiliea Stylianidou and (until 2022) the group “MounοΛογιες”(Eleni Diamantouli and Anna Delimpasi).

The event is curated by Dora Vasilakou within the Lavender Language Institute program at Pickle Bar and is part of Slavs of Tatars residency-mentorship program.

The residency and event are supported by ifa (Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen)
