Featuring a presentation and discussion of the work of Rufina Bazlova and discussion with Dr. Sasha Razor, this panel will explore topics such as female labor, quiet forms of protest, textiles born out of the crisis, and the intertwining of memory and trauma. Rufina Bazlova will introduce her latest initiative "Framed in Belarus," an interconnected diasporic endeavor creating digital and physical embroidered portraits of political prisoners.

Rufina Bazlova is a Belarusian interdisciplinary artist who works with the traditional folk embroidery as a medium to depict socio-political issues.
Sasha Razor is a lecturer in Germanic and Slavic Studies and Film and Media Studies at UC Santa Barbara. She earned her PhD in Slavic Languages and Literatures from UCLA in 2020, with a dissertation focused on Soviet screenwriting in the 1920s and 1930s. Her research interests include avant-garde cinema and literature, Belarusian and Ukrainian culture, decolonial movements, diaspora studies, activism, visual arts, and women's studies.
